چکیده

The Fast Chirp Transform (FCT) provides a powerful formalism for the detection of signals with variable frequency, in much the same way that the Fourier transform provides a formalism for the detection of constant frequency signals. The FCT algorithm has significant applications in the detection of gravitational waves, particularly the gravitational wave signal produced by an inspiralling compact binary. We report on progress towards a parallelised search code to identify inspiral events in interferometer data and estimate the mass parameters. PACS numbers: 04.80.Nn, 02.30.Nw, 84.40.Ua, 95.75.Pq

Modelling Gravitational Waves from Inspiralling Compact Binaries

Gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries can be reliably extracted from a noisy detector output only if the template used in the detection is a faithful representation of the true signal. In this article we suggest a new approach to constructing faithful signal models.

A template bank to search for gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries

Matched filtering is used to search for gravitational waves emitted by inspiralling compact binaries in data from ground-based interferometers. One of the key aspects of the detection process is the deployment of a set of templates, also called a template bank, to cover the astrophysically interesting region of the parameter space. In a companion paper, we described the template bank algorithm ...

Gravitational waves from inspiraling compact binaries: Parameter estimation using second-post-Newtonian waveforms.

The parameters of inspiralling compact binaries can be estimated using matched filtering of gravitational-waveform templates against the output of laser-interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. The estimates are most sensitive to the accuracy with which the phases of the template and signal waveforms match over the many cycles received in the detector frequency bandwidth. Using a recently ...

Gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries with magnetic dipole moments

We investigate the effects of the magnetic dipole-dipole coupling and the electromagnetic radiation on the frequency evolution of gravitational waves from inspiralling binary neutron stars with magnetic dipole moments. This study is motivated by the discovery of the superstrongly magnetized neutron stars, i.e., magnetar. We derive the contributions of the magnetic fields to the accumulated cycl...

Gravitational Waves from Extragalactic Inspiraling Binaries: Selection Effects and Expected Detection Rates

We examine the selection effects that determine how the population of inspiraling binary compact objects (BCOs) is reflected by those potentially observed with ground-based interferometers like LIGO. We lay the ground-work for the interpretation of future observations in terms of constraints on the real population and, correspondingly, binary star evolution models. To determine the extra-galact...
